Certified Police Officers Minimum Qualifications

  • Certified Law Enforcement Officer through the Alabama Police Training Commission (APOSTC) or through another state police training commission.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license; and must pass the criminal background, polygraph, and psychological exams along with a drug test.

  • Pass the APOSTC Physical Standards consisting of: Physical Agility Course (90 seconds), and the Physical Ability Exam (Twenty Two push-ups in 60 seconds; twenty-five sit ups in 60 seconds and 1.5 miles in 15 minutes and 28 seconds.
  • Pass the following; psychological and polygraph exam, along with medical exam and drug screen.
  • Salary Range for Uncertified Officer (Police Academy Recruit) is $23.19-$24.36.
  • Date for the Physical Fitness test for uncertified candidates will be in Mid-April 2026.
