Landscape Technician I - Maintenance - Baldwin County Sheriff's Office
BALDWIN COUNTY
Baldwin County Sheriff's Office is a reputable law enforcement agency dedicated to maintaining public safety and security across Baldwin County, Alabama. Serving a diverse community with various county locations, this agency upholds a commitment to integrity, professionalism, and community partnership. The Sheriff's Office encompasses multiple divisions, including the Maintenance Division, which plays a critical role in keeping the physical premises and grounds safe, functional, and aesthetically pleasing. This responsibility is key to supporting daily operations and ensuring a welcoming environment for staff, inmates, and visitors.
The Landscape Technician I position within the Maintenance Division is a vital role focused on the upkeep and enhancement of the Sheriff’s Office grounds. This full-time role is physically demanding and requires a combination of unskilled and semi-skilled labor tasks. The employee will be responsible for mowing, edging, pruning, and weeding to maintain healthy and visually appealing landscaped areas, including parking lots, sidewalks, and fences. Additionally, this role involves installation and renovation projects such as planting grass, trees, shrubs, and flowers, as well as the application of fertilizers, pesticides, and weed control chemicals to maintain the quality of outdoor spaces.
The Landscape Technician I will also operate and maintain various landscaping equipment like zero-turn mowers, trimmers, hedge clippers, chainsaws, and leaf blowers. Familiarity with sprinkler systems is essential, as tasks include maintenance, repair, and installation of sprinkler lines and heads. Because this role supports multiple Sheriff Office locations across the county — including satellite offices and the Baldwin County Corrections Center — the technician must be willing to travel as necessary.
An important aspect of this position is security and supervision, as the employee may be responsible for overseeing inmate work crews assisting with grounds maintenance. The role requires strict adherence to safety protocols, especially when handling and applying chemicals or working near inmates. Physical endurance and the ability to work effectively under varying weather conditions such as extreme heat, cold, rain, or darkness are required.
Beyond landscaping duties, this position entails some custodial and maintenance tasks including painting, sweeping, vacuuming, mopping, power washing, and general upkeep of facilities. Administrative responsibilities include maintaining work orders, inventory, and keeping accurate reports related to maintenance activities.
Candidates must possess a current valid driver’s license with insurability and a minimum of one year of experience in landscape maintenance or a related field. Knowledge of machinery maintenance, office software such as Microsoft Office, and the ability to communicate effectively are important for success in this role.
