We are seeking a diligent and motivated Landscape Technician I to join our Maintenance Division on a full-time basis. This role is primarily responsible for performing a wide range of unskilled and semi-skilled tasks related to landscaping and grounds maintenance for the Baldwin County Sheriff's Office. The position offers an hourly wage of $17.88 and requires physical labor such as mowing, edging, weeding, and pruning to maintain the lawn areas, parking lots, fences, sidewalks, and other outdoor spaces. The role also entails installation and renovation of landscaped areas, application of chemicals like fertilizers and pesticides, and routine maintenance of groundskeeping equipment.
The Landscape Technician I will also be responsible for administrative duties including completing work orders, managing inventory, and obtaining materials necessary for landscaping tasks. An important aspect of this job includes the supervision and security oversight of inmate work crews assigned to assist with grounds maintenance, requiring a trustworthy and responsible individual. Working conditions may include exposure to inclement weather, working indoors and outdoors in various Sheriff's Office locations, and close proximity to inmates, highlighting the need for a candidate able to perform physical tasks while adhering to safety and security protocols.
In addition to landscaping duties, the technician will be expected to handle custodial tasks such as painting, changing light bulbs, cleaning gutters, and maintaining cleanliness around facilities. This role also demands proficiency with various landscaping tools and equipment including mowers, trimmers, hedge clippers, chain saws, and sprinkler systems. Physical demands include lifting up to 50 pounds frequently and performing repetitive motions requiring dexterity and coordination.
The ideal candidate must have a minimum of one year of experience in landscaping or grounds maintenance, hold a valid driver’s license, and be insurable. Knowledge of equipment maintenance, safety procedures, and Microsoft Office software is beneficial.
