Bus Driver - Mobile County
BOYS & GIRLS CLUBS OF SOUTH ALABAMA INC
REQUIRES CURRENT CDL - MINIMUM AGE 25 - ACCEPTABLE DRIVING RECORD
The Bus Driver will operate the Boys & Girls Clubs of South Alabama (BGCSA) vans and minibus (22 passenger) to safely transport members to and from various locations/programs of the BGCSA in Mobile and Baldwin Counties. The driver will assist with the loading and unloading of passengers and will provide customer service to members during general transportation and pick up and drop off of members. All staff must abide by and support the BGCSA mission, to enable all young people, especially those who need us most, to reach their full potential as productive, caring and responsible citizens.
HOURS: 1:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday during the school year (approx. 15 hours per week); will drive for multiple locations as needed.
Summer Program (June & July) is from 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. - availability will be required at various times during these hours for field trips and other activities.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
- Safely operates a variety of vans and minibuses, adhering to all traffic laws and DOT guidelines and regulations.
- Transports members over required route(s) to proper destination(s).
- Loads and unloads or assist in the loading and unloading of members.
- Performs BGCSA required pre-trip inspection and forms. Reports any maintenance malfunctions to the Director of Operations.
- Responsible for timely and accurate reports, including daily mileage, attendance, safety checks, defect reports and incident reports as required.
- Adheres to established routes and times, adjusting as necessary when members are added or removed from pickup/delivery schedule.
- Make independent judgments, within stated objectives and guidelines, regarding unusual traffic/road conditions, and the proper course of action to take.
- Deal effectively with member needs, supervising members entering, leaving, and while being transported on assigned routes and field trips.
- Communicates member issues with BGCSA Branch Directors.
- Effectively deals with parents, guardians, school personnel and community members in a positive manner.
ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES
- Keeps Branch Director promptly and fully informed of all problems or unusual matters of significance and takes prompt corrective action where necessary.
- Ability to attend Branch staff meetings, classes or trainings as required and requested.
- Presents a uniformly positive image of BGCSA programs and services during all informal community contacts as well as during regular workday activities.
- Performs other duties and responsibilities as required or requested by the Branch Director.
QUALIFICATIONS/SKILLS/KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED
- Current CDL license with clear driving record for at least the past three years.
- Minimum of a high school education with the experience, knowledge, and skills to safely operate a bus and 15-passenger van.
- Must be twenty-five (25) years of age or older and insurable by BGCSA insurance carrier.
- Current First Aid and CPR certificate or the ability to obtain certification and keep current.
- Ability and willingness to work a variable schedule, as required.
- Adherence to established dress standards and willingness to wear issued t-shirts.
- Commitment to the BGCSA and its mission and the ability to work as a team member and represent the BGCSA in a professional manner.
Environmental Conditions: The employee is subject to both indoor and outdoor environmental conditions. Activities occur inside and outside.

- Employees are regularly required to stand, walk, bend, lift, twist, use hands, reach with hands and arms, climb or balance, and see, hear and communicate with sufficient acuity.
- Employees may be required to work/drive in an environment that includes inclement weather and extreme heat.
- Ability to safely assist members on and off a variety of vans.
- Ability to drive varied distances daily and frequent sitting for long periods of time.
Selected candidates are required to complete a background check and a review by DHR, take a pre-employment drug test, and be fingerprinted.
