Engineering Technician I (Operations) - Baldwin County Commission

About the position

Responsibilities

• GPS data collection of roadway features and integration of features into GIS.
• Perform GIS drawings and maps.
• Utilize various technical programs as deemed necessary by Supervisor.
• Perform basic surveying skills such as operating levels, level rods, and tapes.
• Ensure that contractors construct projects in accordance with plans and specifications.
• Obtain, organize and record detailed project data and records in accordance with Alabama Department of Transportation and Baldwin County procedures.
• Take elevations and measurements needed to calculate quantities of excavation and embankment.
• Calculate and prepare monthly estimates and final documentation for various construction projects.
• Assist with the Bridge Safety Inspection Program.
• Perform road inspections.
• Ensure ADEM regulations are met on projects.
• Operate herbicide spraying unit.
• Collect traffic counts and data.
• Analyze traffic data and make recommendations for roadway feature improvements or modifications.
• Perform material testing for projects.
• Enter work records in CIMS or other database.

Requirements

• Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, and other Microsoft Office software.
• Ability to learn ARCGIS and ARCMAP.
• Knowledge of civil engineering practices and their applications to road maintenance preferred.
• Ability to work independently without close supervision.
• Exceptional interpersonal skills.

• Herbicide Applicators License
• Valid Alabama commercial driver's license (CDL Class B) with Tanker Endorsement preferred.
